Gastrointestinal weakness can be thought of as either in the muscular weakness in the digestive tract (which mixes and moves food along the digestive tract), or a functional weakness such as poor production of digestive juices. Both can be treated with acupuncture and moxibustion by needling points in the abdomen and applying heat (either through moxa or a heat lamp you can increase the mixing action of the stomach and the contraction of the intestines. By doing acupuncture and moxa to a point in the leg and one in the stomach area we can increase production of hydrocloric acid in the stomach (thus helping with digestion of proteins, and the production of enzymes in the pancreas and intestines(thus helping with digestion of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
