Scalp Acupuncture is another one of the microsystems used in acupuncture. The areas treated correspond mostly to the area in the brain that controls that function. It is mostly used in treating strokes, but is also useful in treating Phantom Limb Pain, and as another way to treat pain. There are also scalp points that can open the sinuses and wake you up/help get rid of fatigue. Since I used it to treat myself for a stroke I had, I have become an expert in this technique.
I had a patient who had surgery on his wrist and ever since he could not touch is thumb to his pinky. His doctors told him there was nothing they could do about it. Hr had good sensation and no mechanical problems, so I thought scalp acupuncture might help. So I used a point locater and found two points in the hand area. So, I needled them both and got good Qi. Then I asked him to try again. And he could touch his thumb to his pinky the very first time he tried it!
