Gout is rather difficult to treat. the problem is caused by certain chemicals reaching such high concentrations in the tissues that they precipitate out of liquid form into crystals whose sharp points and edges irritate the tissues causing pain. Western medicine tries to treat this with chemistry. Acupuncture on the other hand can stimulate the circulation of extra cellular fluid and can directly affect the concentration in the tissues thus affecting the concentration in the tissues thus helping reduce the number of crystals that form and help dissolve those that have already formed. It is not a cure but it can help reduce the pain. In addition, acupuncture can stimulate the release of endorphins further reducing pain. I have treated this once (acupuncturists don’t see this much) and my treatment did help.
